What Did I Buy?- July

In an effort to reduce on the things Husband and I buy, I’m starting a series for the first or second of every month called, “What Did I Buy?” to help keep me accountable to not spend too much. This does not include basic things we buy every month like groceries and diapers. I’ll also give mini reviews on the things I actually bought to see if the purchases were worth it.

It’s funny that I’m starting this series this month to reflect on the month of July because that’s my birthday month! So expenses were definitely stretched a bit as I’m of the “a birthday isn’t just one day” persuasion. So here’s what I purchased:

As I mentioned in another post about my birthday, my husband and I went on a date day! We saw Baby Driver and had dinner afterwards. As a bit of a splurge, we bought candy and drinks from the concession stand. This is definitely not something we would normally do. We also found movie passes for that particular theatre AFTER we saw the movie. So going forward we would definitely use the passes. But hey, we hadn’t been to the movies since January.

I stated in my birthday outfit post that I would definitely recommend the movie and I stand by that. Husband and I have discussed buying it when it comes out. We really enjoyed it. I’m not someone that gravitates toward “action” movies (I’ll watch them, I like them, but I have to be in the mood) but this was more of a heist movie. Very stylish, very well executed.

Later in the month we met up with some friends to get out with our babies for once. And ya girl got to drink. I’ve only had one drink since giving birth so this frozen mimosa was so worth it.

Look out for the review coming in a few days, but my mom helped me purchase a Graco Pack n Play when we traveled one weekend. We got it for a very reasonable price and some leftover gift cards and coupons also helped. I’d say that we probably could’ve purchased one without all the bells and whistles, but I’ll get to that in the review because I have a lot to say about it.

Little Love has been growing out of his onesies so quickly! We received many newborn sizes for his baby shower but not many sizes after that. In June, we discovered that Target puts “last season’s” baby clothes on sale for even more savings. This is great because while one bodysuit may only cost around 5 dollars, that can add up if more than one are necessary. Every time we shop at Target (which is often), I scour the clearance section and stock up on any onesies or pajamas on sale. I’ve been able to buy many t-shirts and bodysuits for under $3 a piece! So in July, we gradually stocked up on clothes up to size 18 months.

We also moved him into the crib in July. Luckily, we were gifted the crib and had 2 sheets for it. I only purchased a set of mattress protectors and a few more sheets.

If it isn’t obvious from all my other posts about makeup, I’ve been keeping it pretty minimal lately. The only new makeup purchase I made in July was Maybelline’s Vivid Matte Liquid lipstick in the shade 12 Twisted Tulip. The overall consistency was fine. It wasn’t as drying as a matte lipstick can be and in fact if too much product is put on, it takes a while to dry down leaving your lips slightly shiny. Blotting some product off is an easy fix. I bought the shade I did thinking it’d be a muted pink but GIRL, NO. It was full on Barbie lips. It’s fine, just not what I was expecting. I’ll wear it, but definitely selectively.

I’ve been having issues with the dreaded postpartum hair fallout. And for some reason, my dandruff has been awful. This started during pregnancy, but breastfeeding has made it much worse. I bought a few different shampoos to try and so far I’ve tested one, so I may do a more extensive review once I’ve tried the other one. The one I have tried, however, has helped tremendously (Jason’s Balancing Shampoo). If the issue doesn’t clear up soon, I’m going to see a dermatologist.

I have a weird thing about needing a birthday outfit every year. It doesn’t have to be new, just has to be something special. I spotted this jumpsuit from Marshall’s and knew I had to have it. I’d wanted to try wearing jumpsuits for some time and turning 25 was my chance to take the plunge.

This purchase may fit with fashion but I also purchased a hat from Marshalls for my favorite team. I couldn’t resist.

Overall, July was a little different. We’ll see how it goes in August but I’m really trying to start decluttering and minimizing items that are superfluous.

Do you have any suggestions for cutting back? Are you experiencing the same inclination to minimize? Let me know in the comments below or on my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Happy days and see y’all soon!
