Birthdays are very important to me. I’m like Leslie Knope when it comes to birthdays: I always want to make the honoree feel special (which is why it broke my heart when I was sick on Husband’s birthday this year). So of course I feel the same way about my own birthday. And how do I celebrate my own birthday? I make myself feel pretty.Having a “birthday outfit” is important to me, as I’ve written about before. I don’t care if I don’t do anything for my birthday. If I feel pretty and am surrounded by loved ones, it’s a good day.
This year for my birthday, I was lucky enough to get two celebrations, one the day before and one on my actual birthday. The day before was a much needed, no-baby-allowed, date night. Husband and I had not been on a date since months before Little Love was born.
I entered the date feeling very cautious of the evening. I’d only been away from my son once prior to this celebration and I felt extreme anxiety. This was reflected in the first 30 minutes of me rocking back and forth in the movie theatre. *Side note: saw Baby Driver and highly recommend.
We even broke our date into segments so I could make sure Little Love ate. He’s picky when it comes to boob vs. bottle so breaking up the date was an essential part of the plan.
After I fed Little Love we went to dinner and I was much more relaxed there. Well, once I got over my anxiety yet again when I was triggered by another couple bottle-feeding their infant. I really wish I could get my son used to the bottle. But that’s another story for another time.
Overall I really enjoyed having some grown up time and feeling pretty.
I made Husband take these photos of my outfit to highlight how special I felt.
My makeup look was soft but definitely a full face. I’ve been obsessed with this Milani red lipstick ever since my SIL gifted it to me. I usually can’t pull off a red but this is the perfect shade for my skin tone.
I was tempted to use falsies but I’m always pleased when my lashes look bomb on their own. I take back my review of PÜR’s mascara. I have ended up loving what it does for my lashes and it’s become a favorite.
Also, I’ve been dying to finally rock a jumpsuit and figured 25 is a good year to start, especially since I feel like people will take me a tad more seriously now.
I bought this little number from Marshall’s on a whim and LOVE IT. The surplice detail makes it feminine while still easily accessible for feeding Little Love. The navy contrast to the floral pattern makes it interesting without being too busy. I paired it with these block heels from Target.
Finally, for accessories I decided to wear an amethyst-inspired choker that was my mom’s in the 70s with my favorite Stella & Dot necklace. I didn’t necessarily want to pair it with pearls, even though these are my go-to, but running out of time and you can never go wrong with pearls.
Overall, what do y’all think?? The makeup look was so easy and I can do a walk through if you’d like to see it. Let me know in the comments or hit me up on any of my socials!
Be on the lookout for my next post about my actual birthday ensemble!
Happy days and see y’all soon!
